PAHALGAM (Altitude 2130m-90kms)

Once a Modest "Shepherds village" situated on the junction of mighty sheshnag and Lidder rivers, it has developed in to a Popular summer resorts on either side of these rivers on the mountains. • PAHALGAM CLUB PARK

  Once a famous centre for Cultural and recreational activities the Pahalgam club building is under re-construction after its heart- breaking destruction in a fire. However, its beautifully landscaped park has remained a major source of attraction for its large species of fauna and flora, its location on the banks of enchanting River Lidder which attracts nature lovers and a vast number of Visitors.



• POSHWAN PARK

  In the foot-hills of Tuliyan, stand a beautifully landscaped large park (opposite the Pahalgam Club) with a large variety of colorful flowers and evergreen plants. The name –"Posh" meaning "flowers" and "van" meaning "Forest"- does justice it because of its appropriateness to what this park has in it.



• BETAB/ HAGAN VALLEY

  Famous for film shootings is a scenic spot amidst pine trees 2 Kms on Chandanwari road. A stream quietly flows alongside it making this an ideal picnic spot.



• BAISARAN

  This popular picnic spot is 4 Km from Pahalgam with meadows, pine trees and streams flowing through it.



• SHIKARGAH

  A wild life reserve in the close vicinity of Pahalgam.

• KOLOHAI GLACIERS

  At an altitude of 3400 mtrs and a 36km trek from Pahalgam via Lidderwat Enroute to the 5300 mtrs Kolahai Peak (one of the highest peaks in Kashmir)



• TSAR & MARSAR LAKES

  These twin lakes situated at 3788 and 3794 mtrs can be covered by a 3 days trek via Lidderwat.



• ARU

  This village resorts is connected by an 11 Km motor able road with stunning Scenery and pine Scented air along the way. It is Famous for vast Camping sites and educational institution conducting camps find it ideal to pitch base camp in this area. Along the Pahalgam- Aru road is a popular white-water rafting location as a summer recreational activity.

What to DO in Pahalgam ?

• HORSE RIDING

  Ponies can be hired directly or through the Tourist Office. Tariff boards are displayed at all important locations.



• GOLF

  Pahalgam has a 18-hole Golf Course, which is presently under upgradation.



• FISHING

  The LidderRiver has excellent fishing beats for brown trout. The fishing season stretches from April to September. Permits are issued, for a maximum of three days at a time, on a first-come - first-served basis and are charged on a per day per rod basis. Fishing equipment can be hired in Srinagar. Live baits and spinning are not allowed. For permits contact the Directorate of Fisheries, Tourist Reception Centre, Srinagar.



• TREKKING

  The environs of Pahalgam offer exciting trekking opportunities, the best known being: Pahalgam - Chandanwari- Sheshnag- Panchtarni- Amarnath Cave Temple- Sonamarg. Equipment is available on hire from Tourism Department, besides Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering also facilitates the Trekkers.

Amarnathji Yatra - a journey into faith

Every Year Shri Amarnathji Yatra will commence from both the routes, of Pahalgam and Baltal. The Antm Darshan will held on Raksha Bhandhan.
